Giving thanks on a road trip

This is what happens when a momma and her two girlies take a road trip to give thanks for one another…

Much like life, the only real constant on the beach is change… How do you embrace change in your life?

The journey home

The journey back home hasn’t been easy. It’s an evolving story from which I apparently have many lessons to learn. Like being true to myself and demanding the respect I deserve.

It’s hard to imagine what events could set me so far off course. Although I have a good idea of what circumstances allow such an event to have occurred. By not taking care of myself. < I was very inactive this winter. I just started running again. I’ve been eating terribly and have made little time for the things or people that I love.>

I spent too much time waiting and hoping for those who care to show me. And wasted too much time trying to get through to the wrong ones.

I take on too much and never feel completely satisfied. But in every moment I know… On the journey home…

I know to appreciate it for what it is. I know to be true to myself and the life I’m intended to be living will follow.

With each lesson learned I am that much closer to satisfying my appetite for more. I know that it is in the moment which I learn to embrace fully … and appreciate all that it is – that is where and when I will find wholeness.

When I can love purely for the sake of loving, I will be loved wholly.

My 2014 Theme Song! One Life – Boyce Avenue

My 2014 Theme Song! One Life – Boyce Avenue

You lie awake while the world’s asleep
You made mistakes and you’re in too deep
But now is the time

Alarm goes off but you feel too weak
Your soul’s too heavy for your feet
But now is the time

Open your eyes
And know you’re free to come alive
You’ve got to live it while you can
We only get one life

Look to the sky
Don’t ever let it pass you by
You’ve got to live it while you can
We only get one life

You’ve lost your faith and a life that’s cursed
You’ve cried so hard inside it hurts
But now’s the time

Outside the sun is coming up
Inside you think you’ve given up
But now’s the time

Open your eyes
And know you’re free to come alive
You’ve got to live it while you can
We only get one life

Look to the sky
Don’t ever let it pass you by
You’ve got to live it while you can
We only get one life
One life

It’s time to stay up and fight
It’s time for making it right
We only get one life
One life
One life

And when it feels like a lie
I’ll be your reason to try
We only get one life

Open your eyes
And know you’re free to come alive
You’ve got to live it while you can
We only get one life

Look to the sky
Don’t ever let it pass you by
You’ve got to live it while you can
We only get one life
One life

It’s time to stay up and fight
It’s time for making it right
We only get one life
One life
One life

And when it feels like a lie
I’ll be your reason to try
We only get one life
One life

testing, testing… to date or not?

Have you ever felt like you just failed a test you didn’t even know you were taking? to me, this is dating.

May 13 / Mother's Day - by Kate Inglis

It doesn’t matter if you’re meeting someone randomly at a conference and hit it off and start dating, or if your are dating via an online dating service, or if you’ve been set-up on a blind date. In every relationship that doesn’t quite make it, there’s a failed test.

Sometimes it happens on your first encounter. The chemistry test.

Sometimes it’s on your first date. The pucker test.
Or date two. The “easy” test.
Maybe it’s after a few dates, when you fail the compatibility test. Or maybe it’s the absence test when one or the other isn’t able to make it to a significant activity.
Sometimes we’re failing the expectations test.
I’ve known people to fail all of the tests and yet still keep dating, until someone better comes along. I think that’s the measure up test.
I don’t like these tests. I don’t like all of the uncertainty. There is no way of knowing what the criteria is, or often even what the ultimate goal of the test might be.
Take the “easy” test for instance. Is this potential looking for an “easy”/”good time” or are they looking for someone with strong moral fibre? Sometimes I don’t even think the parties participating in or conducting the test know what they’re looking for.
One thing about online dating, is you can discuss a lot of these things beforehand, if you so choose, but then that still leaves you to the Truth or Lie test. However, that test seems to be ongoing in every scenario.
Ultimately there is a lot of risk involved when it comes to dating. I often wonder how many times and at how many stages my heart can be broken before I throw in the towel. All I do know is that I can’t experience the full wonder of loving completely if I am not willing to risk getting hurt, or broken.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there were some sort of product testing reports that could be accessed? 😀

Sharpening life’s images

I have always struggled with just letting stuff happen. I am a thinker, an analyzer and a planner. I love new adventures. The occasional spontaneous leap of faith is fun. However, I am more comfortable knowing the plan, the goal and the way I hope to get there. It can be likened to a photographer sharpening life’s images.

To me it’s the difference between taking a trip packed for every possibility and having every option available to me, and taking nothing but my absolute necessities with me and having to make the best of what is possible. Both scenarios can be a lot of fun yet they yield entirely different experiences.
On the journey of life, I prefer to have most of my experiences happen with some semblance of preparedness, and a handful of unpredictable adventures thrown in for variety.
It’s not that I think everything can or should be planned ahead, but I like to know that I considered most possibilities so that I don’t have to say no to something simply because I wasn’t prepared.
I realize that some times my need to analyze and discuss brings some chapters to a close rather abruptly. I could likely have taken the ride a bit longer if I’d been able to go with the flow more… but the truth is, I prefer the longer lasting, greater depth, long term experiences in life. I just like taking them in varying directions over time.
I can be intense. I am passionate to the point of no return, about nearly everything my life touches.
So while I have been sitting back and waiting for life to show me what is in store, resisting my urge to analyze and prepare, taking things day by day in order to cope with the uncertainty of what is now… I want more than anything to be myself, to have just one aspect of my life that I can at least attempt to be prepared for.
Holding back may be allowing me space to get through each day unscathed, but it has a deadening effect as well. Things feel less poignant, less vibrant, a little soft. I’m ready to take some of the sharpness back. To feel with my whole self. To see every shade and level of colour. If I give of my heart and soul without caution, will it be worth the risk?
